What I'm About

“It would seem that you have no useful skill or talent whatsoever," he said. "Have you thought of going into teaching?”
-the admirable Terry Pratchett
Wait, no that's probably not the way to start this, though on bad days it does seem to be rather unfortunately the truth.

Instead, let's start here. Things I am overly passionate about, in no particular order:

-the roots of weird English spelling and grammar

-positive reinforcement

-replacing copy paper in the office and toilet paper in the bathroom (IT TAKES 2 SECONDS JUST DO IT)

-superheroes

-teaching and learning

-storytelling

-Etude House

-the word ~aesthetic~ (but only written exactly like that)

-this picture:

-every kind of coffee

-languages

If one or more of these things interests you, welcome! If all of these things interest you, can we be best friends?

Now that we're friends, let's talk about what this blog is...about. Clearly it's not about eloquent prose, except when it is. I'm currently an EFL teacher (English as a Foreign Language) in South Korea, which mainly consists of high peaks and low valleys as I try to cram 1 or 2 words into the brains of middle school students. So you can expect a lot of posts about that. Teaching philosophies, funny stories, maybe even some sample lesson plans. Assuming I ever write a lesson plan. I've heard they're great!

I also love introducing and explaining weird or interesting facets of life in Korea, from soap on a stick to the surprising nosiness of taxi drivers. There's a lot to see and do, and while the town I live in mostly just has food to eat, I'll do my best to introduce it to you, dear readers.

Finally, if my rants about linguistics start becoming dangerously long or injurious to you and your loved ones, the safe word is "spackle".
